Well, y’all, as we turn the corner into the new year, I too am turning a corner in my professional life. I’ve finally found remote editing work! It’s a full-time position, so there’s a lot of time each week that will now be spent doing that job. Particularly for the first couple of weeks, I’m going to focus on doing that job to the best of my ability. Unfortunately, this will be to the detriment of both my writing here and my streaming on Twitch. Ideally, after the first couple of weeks, I’ll be able to find a way to get back to streaming as much as I have been, because I’m really enjoying it. Also, It’s continued to grow at a nice pace and creating video game content is much more enjoyable than I ever expected it to be.
So I’m not stopping. I fully intend to continue streaming long sessions on Sundays, and I should be able to do at least one evening session a week. If that’s the slot where I continue my PS2 action platformer let’s play series, so be it. Ideally, I’ll finish Jak and Daxter this week, preserving the pace of that YouTube series. Sly Cooper and the Thevius Racoonus will be different, but consistent within itself.
To Save What’s Lost is another matter, I suppose. If I’m editing for work, I fear I’ll have trouble motivating myself to edit in my spare time as well. Of course, my own project will be a different feel from the writing of others, and I’m still very excited to elevate my manuscript to the next level. So, progress on that front will hopefully not slow (not that it’s been moving all that quickly lately).
Relatedly, with the new year looming, I’ve had the thought to revamp my Patreon. I’m quite fond of my Twitter account epithet: “Disorganized Creative,” as I feel it describes me quite pithily, so I suddenly see an angle for my Patreon Account to encompass more than just my writing. I haven’t ironed out reward tiers just yet, but the gears are turning, friends. I’d love suggestions!
Ultimately, things are looking up. This new job represents an increase in my income, which should mean a decrease in stress overall. I’m really looking forward to properly working from home full-time. I feel it will give me the opportunities to redevelop the habits I’ve allowed to lapse as my moneymaking has become less and less efficient.
So here’s to the new year! Here’s to a new job, and to moving forward. I don’t know what the future will hold, but I’m excited to find out!
