State of the Umbrellas 2020

To be frank, folks, there’s a lot that’s up in the air right now, but let’s start with the more definite things.

I’m for sure ceasing my plodding chronological exploration of this main story, as the beginning of a novel needs certain things that I simply don’t have yet. Therefore, these last couple of weeks, I’ve begun the work of writing scenes that aren’t what comes next in the story, so to speak. I’ve also laid the narrative groundwork for a video game idea that’s been kicking around in my head for some years now; it’s allowing me to explore a significant historical conflict which I cannot wait to share with you.

Some of these scenes are going to have to be Patron-only posts, because I simply can’t bring myself to expose to the whole internet endgame-type information or writing that is that undercooked. However, other scenes, things which would go more toward the beginning or middle of the story, will be available as they come about. For instance, I’ve started a scene that will show my characters in a more capable state but still lies relatively early in the narrative. Once that scene is presentable, or I’ve I’ll be happy to share it with you.

Of course, changing my content in this way raises the question of whether I should consider reorganizing my site, up to and including changing the layout and theme to better accommodate what will likely be a fairly frenetic and disorganized pile of related content. These are the things I’ve been pondering, rather than putting all the effort into generating content like I have been. Please know that even in this interim, I haven’t stopped tinkering with this project and moving it forward.

The final piece is that this is an interconnected world, and I have very big plans for it. One day, I will have several novels and short stories, probably multiple series, and potentially other forms of media (radio drama, video game, short film, etc.) forming a supernarrative in this world. In order to prevent myself from burning out, I am going to start work in other projects, which I will include on this site as much as possible.

Thank you, dear readers, for sticking with me through this weird uncertainty; I will do everything in my power to make it worth your while.
